In the 2006 World Baseball Classic, Team Korea started off quickly but lost in the semi-finals to Japan, who went on to win the tournament. Team Korea went an undefeated 6-0 in the first two rounds beating Chinese Taipei, China, Japan, United States, Mexico, and Japan again but went out with a whimper losing to Japan in the semi-finals by a score of 6-0. Korean players Lee Seung-Yeop and Park Chan-ho made the All-WBC team.

2009 WBC
In the 2009 WBC, Korea once again had a great showing but fell short to Japan, again, in the final. Korea went 6-3 in the tournament and earned the Silver medal. All three loses were to Japan. Bum-Ho Lee (3B), Hyun-Soo Kim (DH), and Jung-Keun Bong (P) all made the All-WBC team. Tae-Kyun Kim led the tournament with 11 RBIs and tied with two others for the most runs (9). Kwang-Hyun Kim surrendered the most runs (8).
